S0029 Removing Top Arm in Service Workshop

For location of pins, refer to S0028 Crane Pin Names.

This procedure is for service workshop use.

Equipment Required:

• Cradle (purpose made tool)
• Lifting Strop or Jig
• Overhead crane (as described separately)
• Pin Puller
• General Tools

How to Remove Top Arm

• Raise top arm until you are able to place the cradle between the top arm cylinder and bottom arm. Carefully lower top arm until cylinder is resting in the cradle.
• Remove retaining bolts from D-pin and then F-pin.

• If required, remove sensor wiring. Take note of connections and label wires for ease of reconnecting.
• This step depends on the crane model:

  I. For models with 16mm centre plugs:

  • Remove 16mm plugs from the centres of both sides of top arm and fit a 16mm bolt 130mm long into plug threads. Fit a lifting strop or chain over these bolts.
  • With an overhead crane or similar lifting equipment take the weight of the arm. Attach a strop or chain from the overhead crane to the G-pin, this will help with balance.

  II. For models without central plugs e.g. older SB360's:

  • Use the SB360 lifting jig - attach the 4 chains to the 4 corner pins of the arm.
• With a pin puller carefully remove the D-pin, take care as the top arm may not be balanced. Adjust strop around G-pin if required.
• With a pin puller carefully remove the F-pin, then remove the top arm
• Wash top arm and place on trestles ready for repair.

Use the same procedure in reverse to refit the Top Arm.
