This SMARTlift software upgrade (v3.28) addresses some safety and operational issues that have been encountered in the field. The changes are as follows;

  1. Warnings added if the Stabiliser Extension Optical Sensor is not shimmed correctly.

    Reason: Previously the operator could only check the operation of the Optical Sensor by viewing the sensor values on the Display. The new software counts the number of edges between Stabiliser fully extended and Stabiliser fully retracted. If the edge count is too low or too high then an error message will be displayed.

  2. Angle and Pressure Sensor failures now stop Sidelifter operation and it is necessary to enter Manual Override to continue using the machine.

    Reason: Any sensor failure should default the machine to a safe condition. By entering manual override mode the operator acknowledges that the safety features of the Load Monitoring System are disabled.

  3. Operation of the Arms in Manual Override Mode is now extra slow.

    Reason: Manual Override Mode is only for use in exceptional circumstances. The extra slow function has been added to discourage the use of Manual Override and encourage the reporting of any technical problems. Full speed is available in Permanent Manual Override Mode but this PIN number is ONLY for the use of authorised service personnel.

  4. When lifting two twenty foot containers, the operator can gain extra height by pressing the horn button once while in Arms Mode.

    Reason: When lifting two twenty foot containers, extra height is sometimes necessary to get the boxes over the centre twistlocks. It is no longer necessary to use Manual Override to achieve this.

  5. Load Side Stability Protection has been improved. If the system detects that it is not possible to unload a container due to the position of the stabilisers, the container will only be able to move a short distance over the load side.

    Reason: Moving a very heavy box on the stabiliser side of the Sidelifter with the stabilisers steeply angled can lead to an unstable situation.
