As of August 2005, 16mm Grade 100 Chains mounted with a Clevis type "G" Pin fitting will be standard for SB330 and SB360 Sidelifters in the following markets:

This 16mm chain has a 36 tonne weight rating.

The current 20mm Chains with the "G" pin hook will continue to be provided on the SB330 and SB360 to the following markets:

The SE400 and SB401 will be fitted with 20mm Chain with a Clevis type "G" pin in all markets with no 16mm option due to the 40 tonne weight rating for these models.

The SB121and SB361 will continue to use 16mm as before.

The SB300 and all units rated below it will also continue as before.

Lifting Lugs

All units but the SB121 using 16mm chain will have lifting lugs that are a similar design to those used with the 20mm chain. SB121's will continue to use the "Klaus" style of lug.

Chain Shorteners

All models designed for double stacking that will be using 16mm Chain have a new style of shortener. Instructions for the number of links looped by unit and for their use are listed below.

To shorten the chains, follow these instructions:

  • From, and including, the first free link below where the chain shortener is joined into the chain (A), count down the appropriate number of links (see table below)
  • Holding the chain so it is slack, slot the link into the pocket of the chain shortener
  • Pull it down to ensure it is seated properly. If required, depress the spring loaded securing bolt (3). Securing bolt locks automatically. Check locking
  • Check all four chains are equally shortened before lifting container.
  • To release the chain again, reverse the procedure, depressing securing bolt at the same time
