Inexplicable electrical faults may be caused by short circuiting due to incorrectly installed WAGO junction blocks.

The photos below show correct and incorrect orientation for WAGO junction blocks.

Impact and Symptoms

Incorrect orientation of WAGO junction blocks results in circuits shorting intermittently, which in turn causes electrical faults. The faults caused depend on which blocks are shorting.

Faults caused by incorrectly orientated blocks are more likely to occur when there is high moisture, as moisture provides a path between the blocks causing them to short. Therefore, as an example, a fault may occur early on a winter morning, but not in the middle of the day.

Reorienting the blocks

The easiest way to identify an incorrectly orientated block is to look at the positions of the release tabs (See photos above).

If the tabs are not all on the same side of the DIN rail, then a block (or blocks) are orientated incorrectly.

To correct this;

  1. Take note of the wires going into the block and which holes they are in.
  2. Release wires using a small flathead screwdriver pushed firmly into the relevant release slot.
  3. Release the block using small flathead screwdriver pushed down and out on release tab.
  4. Re-fit block in correct orientation
  5. Re-connect wires into the block.
