Acceptable wear for Sidelifter Pins and Bushes

All pins used on Steelbro Sidelifter arms are hard chromed working in a glacier type bearing. This enhances product durability and increases the greasing intervals.

Should excess bearing / pin wear be experienced the arm should be removed and the play between the pin and bush measured.

Maximum admissible play cannot exceed 1.5% of the bore diameter.

If the play is greater than this the bushes must be replaced.

If the hard chroming on the pin (shaft) is worn and or damaged then the pin must be replaced using genuine Steelbro spare parts.

In the case of the "G" pin (pin connecting top arm to lifting chains) the pin MUST be replaced if:

  1. There is in excess of 6mm wear in the top face of the oblong ring-retaining groove
  2. If there are any cracks or suspected cracks
  3. If the authenticity of the pin can not be established

Any gouging or acute angle grooves present must also be removed by suitable method eg. grinding smooth.
